General information about the area

Trolltunga is located in the Hardanger region in Norway. It is close to Bergen, Stavanger and Haugesund and is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in Norway. Two national parks, two national tourist routes, fjords, waterfalls and glaciers await you. The Hardangerfjord is  179 km long and is the third longest fjord in the world.

Odda is the largest city in this region and is located a 20-minutes drive from the starting point to Trolltunga, P2 Skjeggedal. The city is surrounded by rushing waterfalls, emerald fjords, blue glaciers, silvery peaks, lush valleys. If you want to travel to this region, it’s the easiest to travel by car, but you can also go by bus, boat and train - read more below.


Getting to our meeting point; P2 Skjeggedal

Our meeting point for our guided hikes is Parking lot 2 (P2) in Skjeggedal.

Arriving by car: Drive to Tyssedal on route 13. From there follow the signs to Skjeggedal, partly on a private road. After around 7 km you will reach the parking P2. It is possible to park here when it’s not full. (500 NOK per day, overnight 700 NOK). We have reserved parking spots for our guests. NB: Camper vans/motorhomes/RV:s/caravans are not allowed to drive up to P2 Skjeggedal. You can park these types of vehicles at the lower parking lot P1. Send us an email if you are planning to come hiking with us and are arriving in a vehicles like this and we will help you sort out the transportation to P2 Skjeggedal.

Arriving by shuttle bus: There are shuttle services from different places in Odda to Skjeggedal. We recommend that you order the shuttle online well in advance, especially during the high season. Read more about the shuttle service and booking here: Trolltunga Shuttle

Getting to Odda and the Hardanger area

  • The nearest international airports are Haugesund (HAU) and Bergen (BGO).

    Most people chose to come to Bergen (BGO) and from there it is easy to travel to Odda (and Trolltunga) either by car or public transport

  • Travelling by car is for sure the easiest and best way to get around in this area. You will have the freedom to stop wherever you want, make small detours and explore the beautiful Hardanger area in the very best way.

    Rental cars can be found in all bigger cities.

    Estimated time of driving to our meeting point Skjeggedal (P2):

    • Bergen – 3-3,5 hours (you will need to take a boat ferry - make sure to check out the time tables in advance)

    • Oslo – 5,5 hours

    • Haugesund – 2 hours

    • Stavanger – 3,5 hours

    NB: During the high season June-August it is normal with a lot of traffic and road construction in the area. Make sure to add some extra time for unforeseen events.

  • You can come from all the major cities to Odda by bus. You will come to Odda Busstasjon (bus station) which is located in the middle of the city centre.

  • Odda does not have any train station so coming here by train includes taking a bus the last stretch.

    You can travel by train with VY to either Voss, Geilo or Bergen, where you can take a bus to Odda.

  • “Hardangerfjordexpress" is the most beautiful way to travel from Bergen to Odda. You can take the boat from Bergen to Rosendal, with a corresponding bus connection to Odda.
